Michelle Obama Delivers Final Speech as First Lady of the US

Michelle Obama is ending her service as First Lady with the same level of class she’s displayed throughout her tenure. In her final speech as FLOTUS, she sent positive messages to the country. Stating that serving as First Lady had been “the greatest honor” of her life, she struggled to keep from crying as she addressed American youth.

Throughout her time in the White House, Mrs. Obama has focused on school-aged children. She’s promoted healthy school lunches and physical activity. At the end of her speech, she spoke directly to young Americans. She encouraged listeners to “know that they matter, that they belong” and promoted a positive attitude, saying “Lead by example with hope; never fear.”

The past few months have been difficult for the FLOTUS. In a difficult campaign season, she’s promoted hope and taking the high road, although neither candidate seemed to listen her. Her positivity has led to her being named one of the most trusted women in the United States.

Mrs. Obama spoke at the School Counselor of the Year conference. She started the event in 2015 to honor high school counselors.

Although she’ll miss living at the White House, her family is ready to move on. She gave an interview to Vogue in November 2016 where she discussed her favorite sights from the White House, including the South Lawn and the Washington Monument.

Although this is the last speech she’ll give as the First Lady of the United States, she’s not done with her political career. She’ll appear on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” on January 11, 2017. Both she and President Obama have indicated that they’ll be staying in Washington, D.C., until their youngest daughter finishes high school. Americans can count on this vocal leader continuing to promote the best interests of students.
