A cab driver went to a woman’s house to pick her up where he waited outside for a few minutes for the woman. He thought about driving off because it was going to be his last stop of the night, however, he decided to get out of his car and knock on the door for the woman. She told the cab driver that she would be out in just a minute, and when she came out the cab driver was caught by complete surprise…
The woman was in her 90s, and dressed like someone who’d just walked out of the 1940’s. The cab driver looked in the woman’s house, and it looked as though it had been years since someone lived in it. She asked the cab driver to carry her bag out to the car, which he agreed to. The woman thanked the man for his kindness to which the driver responded by saying that he treats people the way he would want his mother to be treated.
The woman asked the man if he would drive her to downtown. The cab driver agreed. She informed the man that she was on her way to a hospice center, and her doctor had told her she did not have much time left. The woman also stated she was in no rush so the cab driver spent the next two hours driving through town. As the driver drove through town, the woman pointed out areas that meant a lot to her. She showed the man where she used to work and where she and her husband lived after they got married. She also pointed out a building where she took dance classes when she was a little girl. The woman often asked the cab driver to stop here and there for her. She would sit and stare at the building or park without saying a word.
After the woman was tired of riding around, she told the cab driver that it was time to go. When they arrive at the hospice center, the woman asked the cab driver how much she owed. The driver told his customer she did not have to pay anything. However, the woman did not want to take no for an answer.
The man informed the woman that there were other passengers. The cab driver gave the woman a big hug before she went into the building. The man’s was so touched by the ride that he could not pick up anyone else. He stated that he is glad he could share such a special moment with the woman.
