People are familiar with waitresses. These hard working women are on their feet all day. They don’t earn a lot of money, and they sometimes have to put up with difficult people. Perhaps one of the most iconic types of waitresses are the ones that work at the legendary restaurant Hooters. Here, the waitresses are noted for their beauty and gifted body types. However, these waitresses are also known for something else. Do you know what it is? It’s kindness. At least, that is exactly what people are learning after a story was shared over the Internet about a homeless man visiting a Hooters recently. What happened to him is both touching and amazing.
A young woman named Morissa was about to start her shift at Hooters. Morissa worked part time at the restaurant. When she wasn’t waiting tables, Morissa worked in the hair and makeup industry. Normally, Morissa would walk right inside of the restaurant and start her shift. However, today something was different. A homeless man was sitting outside of the restaurant looking lost, alone, and disheveled. Morissa struck up a conversation with the man. She eventually learned that he was homeless and didn’t have anything to his name. To make matters even worse, the man reported he had also just been hit by a car. He couldn’t even go to the hospital to get his injuries looked at because he didn’t have any identification on him. Morissa invited him into the restaurant and said the restaurant would be honored to have him. She told him he could eat anything he would like.
Gratefully, the man entered the restaurant and began to eat a wonderful meal. Morissa learned the man’s name was Rick, and she learned a few more things about his life story. Rick was polite throughout the entire meal, and people at neighboring tables also began to take notice of this sweet man.
Eventually, the meal came to a close. Morissa related, “He finished up his meal and told me he would never forget my name, my face, and how I had given him hope again. I asked if it was okay if we took a picture together, he was delighted. He even pulled out a small comb and combed his beard for our picture…so cute! As he goes to leave, he takes off his necklace and hands it to me, and told me he wanted me to have it. I was speechless. I still am. This man gave me the only thing that had any value to him. That is a debt I will never be able to repay.” The necklace acted as type of spiritual and physical payment for the kindness of Morissa.
They both look so different. He is old and a bit grizzly looking. She is young and beautiful. Notwithstanding their differences in appearance, they share a similar heart. Both of them understand the joy of both giving and receiving kindness. Some people might say Rick got a great deal by being able to eat a meal for free. However, many other people would say Morissa came out on top through being able to feel the joy of serving one of her fellow human beings. It is safe to say both of them had a wonderful experience that day at Hooters.
