One of the hardest things about parents being in the military is that they miss out on special events in their child’s life. Some parents will surprise their children by coming home early, going to school and events to let them know that they are back. One soldier surprised his son at school. The boy was at lunch, talking to his friends, when his father came up behind him.
Matthew Peters wanted to let his son know that he was home in a surprising way. He wanted to show him he was home while in front of the teachers, staff and other students. Peters was in Kuwait for about a year, the only communication being through the phone and videos.
The students in the cafeteria see Peters walking up behind his son. They appear as surprised as the little boy. Peters’ son thought that it would be another week before his father would be home as he had talked to him the night before.
The boy’s mother captures the moment on camera. He waves to her while she is trying to maintain her composure. His father then gives him a hug from behind. The boy begins to cry when he sees his father, telling others later that he was very surprised to see him.
