Recently, a young woman named Morissa pulled up in the parking lot of the Hooters restaurant where she works in Phoenix, Arizona, and saw something she didn’t expect: an unkempt man sitting on the curb looking dejected. Instead of telling him to leave, rushing past him, or calling the police, Morissa stopped and took the time to talk with him.
She learned that the man’s name was Rick, that he was homeless and was from Ohio originally. He had recently been hit by a car but did not have the money to get help at a hospital. In fact, he didn’t even have any identification. He had simply been sitting on the ground feeling hopeless when Morissa arrived.
Morissa helped him to his feet, walked him into the restaurant and told him to order whatever he liked as an entree. He enjoyed a free meal, and another table picked up the tab for his dessert. Before he left the restaurant and went on his way, he posed for a picture with Morissa, combing his long beard carefully first.
Rick told Morissa that he would never forget her kindness and gave her his necklace, which Phillipians 4:13 engraved on it. He told her that it was the only thing he had to give. Morissa hugged him and wished him luck. She said that she would never forget him either. Later, she posted the inspirational story on Facebook.
